In late 2023 three teenage boys Leo Easton, Luka Johnson and Louie Burger set off into the bush from a road bend near Murchison ( the Southernmost point of the Kahurangi National Park). Their goal, to walk the full length of the Kahurangi form the Southernmost point to the Northernmost point covering roughly 220 km of country, with over half of the trip spent navigating thick, slow moving, off track terrain. The crux of mission being the walk from Brown Hut ( start of the Heaphy Track) to the base of Farewell Spit ( the finish location) all off which was without known routes or trails. Just shitty bush.
The short film "Kahurangi: A South To North Traverse" follows the journey of these boys and their adventures deep within Kahurangi.
